59 Musgrave Road was developed as the architectural studio for Stauch Vorster Architects, combining the restoration of a historic Victorian villa with a contemporary office extension. The project sought to preserve the heritage character of the listed residence while creating a modern workplace suited to the evolving needs of the practice.

The challenge was to integrate a new addition within a sensitive historic setting without imitation or pastiche. The design needed to respect the scale, siting, and architectural character of the original villa while clearly expressing contemporary architectural principles and construction.

The existing Victorian building was carefully restored, while a new glass and steel extension was introduced, proportioned to complement the original house. The asymmetrical form and detailing of the historic villa are intentionally contrasted with the ordered symmetry and lightness of the contemporary addition, establishing a clear dialogue between old and new.

The completed project creates a coherent architectural composition that preserves the building's heritage while accommodating contemporary studio functions, demonstrating an approach grounded in continuity, adaptation, and contextual sensitivity.
